I haven't read this edition of the book, but rather the earlier edition from the 70's that he published with Heathcock. I loved it! It was what really energized me for chemistry, and organic chemistry in particular. This was the standard text for the freshman-level chemistry sequence at Stanford the years I was there (unlike many schools, they jumped right into organic chemistry after a one-quarter introductory or review course on general chemistry principles). I still remember being able to easily memorize the variouos classes of reactions, e.g., aldol condensations, esterifications, and so on, from the presentation in this textbook. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
